I feel the need for a rant as I am very hacked off!
Today, I went to a university open day to help me make a choice in what degree I want to study next year. I was thinking of Criminal Justice or Addictive Behavior which is basically substance use.
I went for a chat with the lecturer from Criminal Justice and I have to say, I have never met anyone so damn rude! The impression that she was giving was the my questions were not important and she didn't really want to speak to me. She looked at me as if I was stupid when I asked a question and yawning and sighing before she answered! Hey I thought these people where supposed to 'sell' their courses to potential applicants to ensure that they still have a job next year! Let's just say I changed my mind about the course as I wonder what her abilities as an actual lecturer are!
On a better note, the lecturer from Addictive Behavior was lovely and spent half an hour chatting to me. She made me feel as though my questions and views are important and gave me so much information about the course and really convinced me it will be a great degree to do.
As it turns out, there are no exams on it so with everything being based on coursework, it won't be too different from college. Most of the people that do that degree are aged between 30 and 50 (which will be great for me as I will be nearly 24 when I go) and the majority are ex-addicts and ex-offenders so they have alot to contribute. There is also two hours a week study skills for people who may find essays difficult etc. The course is two days a week with a day home study.
it just goes to show how different attitudes affect peoples minds. After leaving the Criminal Justice table I thought 'I certainly don't want to be taught by that woman who has that sort of attitude on an open day' and after leaving the Addictive Behavior table I thought 'what a lovely women, I would really like her to teach me and be in her class.'
It doesn't take much to be polite and friendly to anyone.
